Prayer for “Guard Your Heart”

Father, I thank You that You have blessed us with a heart that is the control center of the soul, the mind, the will and our affections, and that our hearts are a high risk, vulnerable place because of sin, and must be guarded at all times. You said, Lord, that our hearts are deceitful and cannot be trusted. Lord, help us to guard our hearts at all times, because according to You, Lord, it is the wellspring of life. And help us, oh Lord, to understand that out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. And we will speak what our hearts are full of, that our hearts and minds are connected, and we don’t only think with our minds, but also with our hearts. Lord, help us to change the way we think so our words will be pleasing and acceptable unto You, O Lord. According to 1 Peter 4:11, we have the gift of speaking. So I pray that we will speak as though God himself is speaking through us, and we will only speak words that will edify and lift up the hearer, and we will speak life, praise God, and not death. For Jesus said that it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth that defiles a person. So I ask You, Lord, to help me keep a guard on my mouth and a close watch over my heart to protect it from wrong thinking. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen. Amen.
